In 1987, the Border Cafe opened its doors on a cozy corner in the heart of Harvard Square. It was decided from the start that a commitment to quality, value, and fairness in all respects of business would be the guiding value.

Priority one was to serve genuinely good tasting food at a great price. The menu and atmosphere were carefully designed to appeal to all age groups. We added exceptional margaritas and cold cervezas to create a casual, fun-oriented establishment.

The original menu offered traditional Tex-Mex favorites, but shortly after we opened our doors, we began an exploration into Cajun country. The Border Cafe adopted the philosophy of an unassuming culinary genius named Jose Creole, who boldly blended his native Jalisco dishes with Cajun delicacies.

His masterful creations required:

  • careful attention to detail,
  • use of the finest ingredients, &
  • preparing every item in the kitchen from scratch

The adoption of these qualities made the Border Cafe an immediate success.

The decision was then made to expand, but to never sacrifice quality for growth. In 1990, the Saugus, MA Border Cafe was opened and with the continued success, the Woodbridge and Fairfield, NJ locations followed in 1992 and 1996. The residents of Newark, DE eagerly accepted their Border Cafe in 2001 and since 2007 our Burlington, MA location continues to wow its neighbors with honest and unique dishes, just as the first did in 1987.

In summary, it has been our goal from the start to satisfy each guest in a manner that will ensure his or her return. When you dine with us, we’re confident that you’ll see our effort to make you feel comfortable and at home.
